SUBJECT: SIMI VALLEY ANTI-NUDITY ORDINANCE
         NATURIST RESIDENTS OF SIMI VALLEY 
         URGED TO ATTEND CITY COUNCIL MEETING 
         MONDAY, DEC. 4

Attention: Naturists in Simi Valley, California

The Naturist Action Committee wishes to make you aware of an 
important meeting of the Simi Valley City Council. On December 4, 
2000, council members will consider a harsh new anti-nudity 
ordinance. 

NAC needs your help in opposing this ordinance and asks that you 
take time from your busy schedule to attend this important public 
meeting. The meeting will take place on Monday, December 4, 2000, 
at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chamber at City Hall, 2929 Tapo Canyon 
Road, Simi Valley, California  93063. The meeting is open to 
everyone, but residents of Simi Valley will have by far the 
greatest impact on the considerations of the council.

Ordinance 988 was developed at the request of the Simi Valley 
police chief in response to a local situation involving a single 
individual who was inappropriately nude in a public place. Even 
though the authorities have existing laws to address the matter, 
they have used this opportunity to request additional laws 
specifically prohibiting nudity. The City Attorney admits that the 
proposed ordinance might be used against those who choose to 
sunbathe nude in their own back yards. Violators are subject to a 
$1,000 fine and up to 6 months imprisonment.

NAC will be proposing a substitute ordinance at the meeting.

At the meeting on Monday evening, you are encouraged to speak 
against the proposed new city law. We need to make our voices 
heard, and this will likely be our only opportunity. But even if 
you don't intend to speak, your supportive presence at the meeting 
is important.
